INTRODUCTION

HotelBeds came to be in 2001 and they operate as a global business-to-business partner to hotels from over 185 countries. With a portfolio of 75,000 hotels/properties under their name, HotelBeds gives travellers a one-stop-site to find the perfect accommodation wherever they’re travelling to. At the same time, HotelBeds provides business for its partners by playing the role of a distribution channel for them. Wanting to maintain their promise of strong team-working ethics with value-added services, HotelBeds approached TinkTank to carry out a training programme for their managers. The purpose of this training is to groom them as leaders of high-performance teams. A separate training course was also executed to improve the presentation skills of these managers.

THE ORGANISATION’S CHALLENGES

HotelBeds wanted to see an increase in revenue and outcome from teams that were based in China. They therefore specified this training for leaders and managers from their China branch, who in this duration will pick up team-handling skills and also presentation skills. HotelBeds identified these as the two points that needed strengthening as an increase in team performance translates to higher productivity. Improved presentation skills on the other hand would result in an increase in clients. Combining the both will have the organization achieving the revenue target they have their eyes on.

THE TINKTANK SOLUTION

TinkTank devised a 2-day Towards High-Performance Teams Workshop that focuses mostly on experiential learning and hands-on activities. 70% of the training consist of group discussion of case studies and live situations, guided practices as well as action planning and take-away tools. Lectures were also carried out to ensure that participants are well-versed with important basics before moving on to implementation activities. Each workshop conducted had a maximum of 20 participants who were HotelBeds managers based in China.

High Performance Team Modules

The second part of the managers’ training was the 1-day Skilled Presenter Workshop which taught participants on how to be better speakers and also develop eye-catching, informative presentation that can generate sales revenue for the organization. This crash course hosted a maximum of 10 participants in each workshop so trainers can focus more on identifying strengths and weaknesses of each participant and everybody gets the attention that they need.

Upon completion of the training, participants were then invited for a ½ day group consultation 6 weeks after. In this time, they carried out group reviews on their progress and how they’ve applied key learnings into their working experience. Participants also reported on what improvements they have seen, what worked and what did not work as well as what obstacles they had faced. The group of 30 carried out a Force Field Analysis which aided them in tackling the barriers they’ve encountered before wrapping up the consultation with personal reflections.
